QuantumUnix exists to make a secure workstation profile that is easy to study, rebuild, audit and customize. The project prefers integration over reinvention.
Unix-style
Small tools, plain text configuration, shell-first workflows, keyboard-driven productivity.
Private
No analytics, no hidden cloud dependencies, and clear network behavior by default.
Secure
Mandatory access controls, encrypted storage, signed releases, rollback-oriented updates and hardening profiles.
Post-Quantum
Crypto-agility with hybrid ML-KEM / classical handshakes where practical, and a PQ-STRICT profile for pilots.
Principles
- Build on upstream: Arch Linux and Omarchy remain the base; QuantumUnix contributes a privacy/security layer.
- Layer cleanly: common base, organization overlay, user overlay.
- Document everything: every decision has a threat-model note and a reversible configuration path.
- Prefer boring security: practical controls beat marketing claims.
Scope
In scope: desktop/laptop workstations, small fleets, reproducible images, hardened browser and shell workflow, crypto policy and verification docs.
Out of scope for the first proof-of-concept: smartphones, Windows emulation, a new package manager, or a custom kernel fork.
